De Beers Signals Natural Diamond Stabilization and Debuts "Desert Diamonds" Campaign at JGW Hong Kong
Following its participation in Jewellery & Gem WORLD (JGW) Hong Kong, De Beers Group issued an operational assessment indicating that the global natural diamond market is steadily moving toward supply-demand equilibrium after a prolonged midstream rebalancing.
Global Supply and Regional Trends
Global Supply Adjustments
Annual global natural diamond production has contracted from a historical peak of roughly 170 million carats to approximately 100 million carats, effectively curbing excess inventory across cutting centers in Surat and Antwerp.
Regional Market Dynamics
Wholesale demand in the United States remains resilient ahead of the Q4 holiday season, while retail sentiment in mainland China and Hong Kong is showing early signs of floor-level stabilization. Additional regional momentum is being supported by steady luxury consumption across India, Europe, Japan, and the Gulf region.
The Desert Diamonds Strategy and Chow Tai Fook Collaboration
Central to De Beers' showcase was Desert Diamonds, a major category-marketing initiative highlighting natural diamonds sourced from desert regions across southern Africa—specifically Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa. Rather than focusing solely on traditional D–F colorless stones, the initiative celebrates a spectrum of warm desert tones ranging from sunlit whites and soft champagne hues to rich amber tones.
Positioned to contrast with uniform, mass-produced lab-grown alternatives, the campaign links the billion-year subterranean origin of natural gems in the Kalahari Desert to themes of resilience, individuality, and authenticity.
To demonstrate the real-world application of the initiative, De Beers partnered with Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group to unveil the Desert Rose collection. The 20-piece capsule line features origin-verified Desert Diamonds set in fluid, geometric gold mountings inspired by desert dunes and botanical shapes. Every stone within the lineup is integrated with De Beers' proprietary Tracr blockchain platform, allowing end consumers to verify complete mine-to-market provenance.
